The greater your search ranking, the greater chance you have of someone clicking on your website. Whether your goal is to make sales or get people reading your content, it’s imperative you’re clued up in SEO to make sure your content is readable and easily understood by Google.
Here are a few tips to improve your SEO:
Keyword research lays the foundations for a boosting your SEO ranking. Keyword research enables you to see what words or phrases people are searching for so that you can tailor your content accordingly. Try to keep your content as niche and authentic as possible, whilst also naturally including these keywords so that you can capture long-tail search traffic. Google Suggest and Google Related Searches can be great tools in helping you understand long-tail keyword variations. Otherwise, you can use Keyword Planner or Wordstream’s Free Keyword Tool to find out what people are searching for around your niche topic. Optimise your site
Using descriptive headings and meta tags will help Google to identify what your content is about and whether it is relevant for the user. HTML meta tags are page data tags that lie between the open and closing head tags in the HTML code of a document. The text in these tags is not always displayed but they tell the browsers specific information about the page - essentially explaining to Google what the page is about. Conduct a bit of audit to your site and ensure all your headings and sub-headings clearly represent what your content is about. Creating compelling headings that attract clicks will help to boost your visibility on Google.
Don’t buy links
Receiving links from other websites will help to boost your Google ranking. Google is like one big spider web and the more links you have coming to your site will strengthen your authority in Google’s eyes. However, if you buy links or receive an usually high volume of links to your site, Google will penalise you as they will detect suspicious activity. It’s not worth the risk, earn your links naturally and create content that people will want to click on and share.
You can actually improve your own SEO by internally linking to pages within your site. Search engines need to see content in order to list pages in their massive keyword–based indices, so they need to have access to a crawlable link structure. Basically, this is a structure that lets spiders follow the web through your website in order to find all of the pages. Moz claims spiders will not attempt to perform searches to find content, and thus, it's estimated that millions of pages are hidden behind completely inaccessible internal search box walls. So keep linking internally if you want your content to be visible!
