I’ve always loved Mexican food, but Peyotito in Notting Hill gives it a whole different meaning. Their sophisticated, modern Mexican dining offers a unique taste of Latin America. The menu is curated to perfection by Chef, Eduardo Garcia, with a range of fish, meat and veggie dishes.
Despite growing up near London and dining out in Notting Hill a few times, I had never come across Peyotito before. It always amazes me when I find new, hidden gems in London - the food scene here is just so good. If I’m honest, I often end up resorting to restaurants I have tried and tested, which is why venturing outside of my 'food comfort zone' to try Peyotito’s tapas, tequila and mezcal cocktails, in a stylish, lounge interior, was so enjoyable.
Every dish you eat has been carefully crafted to include traditional Mexican flavours, but with a modern twist. The idea of enjoying small, flavourful dishes that are cooked to perfection is prevalent in their ethos. To start, we were greeted with tacos and three salsas – they range from mild to extremely spicy. Then we opted for our first cocktail fix, which was Peyotito’s signature margarita, with a specially crafted Mexican tequila and a spicy Tajin rimmed glass. It came with its own mini shot of tequila which you can add to the cocktail for an extra strong drink, or enjoy neat.
For our mains, we feasted on a selection of the tapas – 24hr braised lamb soft tortilla tacos and Raw Yellowfin tuna on a large, crispy taco with guacamole. This was fine dining luxury at its best. We followed this with the short rib, slow-cooked in traditional dried broth, with seasonal vegetables. Finally, we shared the mascarpone cheesecake with ice-cream. Delish!
Peyotito also has a new restaurant opening in Nobu Hotel IBIZA Bay this summer. If I can make it over the island this summer I will check out the new restaurant.
